Bespoke Jewellery Projects
This client approached me in the middle of COVID Lockdown here in Sydney. In a time that a lot of people were feeling uncertain of the future, he was resolute and so excited to create this beautiful piece. He told me how, to him, his partner is like the Milky Way, free spirited and shining brightly. He wanted to convey this and her love of travel in the ring. He felt strongly about using mostly Australian gemstones, so we found this incredible 2.09ct Parti Sapphire from Rubyvale in Central Queensland to represent the brightest star in the centre.
This parti Sapphire has this incredible band of Teal Blue flashing throughout the centre, and this lent itself to the design, with the colours of the different gemstones in the ring sprinkled across the band in a constellation. Set in 18K Yellow Gold, Pink Diamonds, Yellow Diamonds and Yellow and Green Australian Sapphires are scattered throughout Blue Australian Sapphires and Teal Australian Sapphires to signify bright stars within the night sky. Tiny specks of raw Australian Sapphires are embedded on the band.
‘For a while I was unsure
Whether that star was not just the light
Of a plane, moving away.
For a while, I thought it was.
Then I looked more carefully,
Shifting my vision up, down, and sideways
Through the branches.
And there it was:
Clearly a star.
Chew Kheng Chuan. Poem titled ‘For a while I was unsure.’ (1984)
This was the poem that accompanied this spectacular ring when my client proposed to his partner.
“I cannot recommend Carla enough. My fiance and I sought her services out after seeing her work with a friend and deciding she was the artisan we needed to bring our dream engagement ring to life. And she did not disappoint! Carla is warm, professional and you can see how much joy she gets out of working together with you to craft something completely unique. I can’t wait to go back to get the wedding bands designed!”
