The Hybrid Collection

This collection was born out of my experience of moving to a different country at the age of 28. My life will forever be entwined and divided between the continents of Africa and Australia, with most of my family and loved ones living in South Africa, and my husband and I starting a family in Noosa, Queensland.

 

As an artist I have always been interested in the visual and aesthetic narrative of a place, and so the Hybrid Collection started to form in my mind. A vibration of aesthetics inspired by being from two places at once. Many other artistic elements have contributed to the series - a lot of the pieces having a clear line down the middle. The one side serious, traditional jewellery- the other- wild and crazy, a vibrant asymmetric party of gemstones that breaks out in dance and freedom.

 

A lot of the time I get inspired by the centre gemstone itself - especially those that have more than one colour banding present, like Parti Sapphires or Bicolour Tourmalines.
